No question that poverty leads to a lot of unhappiness. Is excessive wealth leading to happiness though? None of the billionaires that I see look particularly happy. They seem to be so locked into winning a game that's already rigged in their favor that the intense grimmace of hypercompetitive capitalism never leaves their face, even for "happy" moments. The guy who is "winning" is so psychologically addicted to blasting himself into k-holes that he's teetering on the brink in official government meetings. That's not happiness, it's escapism. Like, ketamine is OK, but shouldn't being the richest man in the world be fun enough to want to stay present and grounded here in the world more often and not be in the k-hole bardo all of the time? The happiest people that I know aren't the wealthiest. Greed is a sickness and we should have measures in place as a society to treat it rather than incentivize it.
