No question that poverty leads to a lot of unhappiness. Is excessive wealth leading to happiness though? None of the billionaires that I see look particularly happy. The guy who is "winning" is so psychologically addicted to blasting himself into k-holes that he's teetering on the brink in official government meetings. That's not happiness, it's escapism. The happiest people that I know aren't the wealthiest. Greed is a sickness and we should have measures in place as a society to treat it rather than incentivize it.
