I'm sure there's depths of this that I don't see and that I have plenty of blind spots but, from what I can see, the amount of immediate leverage that I'm granted against systems of institutional authority just beacuse of the color of my skin and my gender is striking and sickening. My experiences in potentially sticky situations have been way different than people in my life who I love from other communities. It's time for white men to fight back, not because we're the ones being attacked right now, but because it's the right thing to do. The institutional power in this country was set up to benefit and protect white men and this gives us the most power in dismantling it, not through anything we've earned, but through something we've been unfairly given. A white guy confronting ICE is powerful, not because we know anything more or are doing anything better, but because we are fighting an inherently racist system. Time to get in there guys.
