The average cost of a one bedroom apartment in the US is roughly $1,700. A full time job at federal minimum wage is $1,326 per month. It's criminal that, as a society, we can't guarantee housing for people. If people are locked up for doing the right thing and still not being able to make ends meet, they don't even have to be paid $7.25/hour any more though and the for profit prison corporations can resell the labor that they get practically for free at really high margins. There are a lot of folks here in LA who are currently unhoused who are Veterans as well, but I guess once they're out of uniform, the plan in to lock them up and have them work for a dollar a day for multinational prison corporations. After all, the unhoused Veterans don't even have a Super PAC and don't donate nearly as much to reelection campaigns.
